The legend reads D N BADV / ILA REX in neat, well-spaced capital letters, asserting the royal authority of Baduila (also known as Totila), king of the Ostrogoths. The wreath surround is composed of stylized beaded or leaf elements typical of the hammered silver issues of this period. The reverse carries no figurative imagery, relying entirely on the epigraphic legend as its principal design element. |
