| Opis rewersu | Central field features the royal monogram of Theoderic composed of the letters R and D in interlaced form, set within a beaded or plain inner circle and enclosed by a finely rendered laurel wreath. The monogram, occupying the entirety of the reverse, asserts Ostrogothic royal authority while maintaining the outward trappings of Roman imperial coinage. No additional legend is present. |

Amalasuntha's position was precarious from the moment her father Theoderic died in 526. She ruled as regent for her son Athalaric and, following his death in 534, briefly as co-ruler with her cousin Theodahad — who had her strangled on an island in Lake Bolsena in 535. This coin was struck in that narrow, violent window. Justinian used her murder as a pretext for launching the Gothic War, making these issues among the last Ostrogothic coins produced before the Italian reconquest began dismantling the kingdom entirely.
