| 正面描述 | Central device depicts three volcanoes rising from a horizontal ground line, the middle volcano emitting smoke or flames, all surmounted by a radiant sun with alternating long and short rays in the upper field. The design is rendered in a bold relief style characteristic of Central American republican coinage. A fine beaded border encircles the entire coin. The date appears in the exergue below the volcanic group. |

Guatemala's fractional silver coinage of this period was produced under the monetary framework established after the country abandoned the old colonial real system — slowly and incompletely. The 1/4 real persisted well past the adoption of the peso decimal system precisely because small-denomination silver remained the only practical medium for indigenous market transactions in the highlands, where paper currency was effectively useless.
