Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud unified the Hejaz under his rule in 1926 after defeating the Hashemite king Ali, and these copper-nickel fractions were among the first coins struck in the name of the newly consolidated territory. The kingdom would be renamed Saudi Arabia just four years later, in 1932, making this series one of the shortest-lived sovereign coinages in the region's modern history — issued, circulated, and superseded within a single decade.
