| Beschrijving voorzijde | Within a raised concentric double ring border, a trefoil arrangement of four pellets occupies the central field: one pellet at the apex and three pellets grouped below, forming a compact quatrefoil cluster. The design is entirely anepigraphic, with no legend or inscription. The flan is thin and irregularly shaped, characteristic of Norwegian bracteate coinage of the late 12th to early 13th century. |

Struck under the reign of Sverre Sigurdsson, who seized the Norwegian throne after a protracted civil war against the Birkebeiner's opponents and was excommunicated by Pope Clement III in 1194. The Church's interdict against Norway during this period created extraordinary administrative pressure on royal minting operations. Sverre's coins are among the thinnest and most irregular of any Scandinavian medieval issue — a reflection of genuine silver scarcity rather than minting negligence.
