正面铭文 شاهانی
(Translation: Shahani)
背面描述 Persian inscription in the field within a plain cartouche or oval border, written in a stylised Naskh hand. The legend reads 'Shahani', denoting the denomination type associated with the Nawabs of the Carnatic. Additional diacritical dots are visible throughout the inscription. The overall execution is characteristic of the hammered copper coinage produced at the Trichinopoly (Trichy) mint under Muhammad Ali Khan Wallajah. The flan is irregular and the strike is off-centre in places.

附加信息

Muhammad Ali Khan Wallajah held the Nawabship of the Carnatic for nearly half a century, but his authority was progressively hollowed out by the East India Company, which used him as a client ruler while accumulating his debts and his territory. The Trichy mint operated under this increasingly nominal sovereignty — coins struck here in the later decades of his reign were issued by a ruler who was, in practical terms, already a pensioner of the Company by the 1780s.
