The portrait, modelled by Coert Laurens Steynberg, occupies the central field and displays fine sculptural detail in the facial features and clothing. The bilingual legend 'SUID-AFRIKA - SOUTH AFRICA' arcs along the upper periphery, separated by ornamental stops. A fine beaded border encircles the entire design.

背面描述	A pronking springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis), the national animal of South Africa, is depicted in bold relief at centre, leaping to the right across a rocky ground plane with native vegetation rendered in the exergual area. The date is divided on either side of the springbok, with '20' to the left and '02' to the right in the illustrated example. The curved legend '1/4 KRUGERRAND' arcs along the upper field, while the bilingual gold content inscription 'FYNGOUD 1/4OZ FINE GOLD' appears along the lower periphery, flanked by the engraver's initials 'CLS'. A continuous beaded border frames the entire reverse design.
