The Shikargah mint — meaning "hunting ground" — was not a conventional urban mint but a temporary field installation established at imperial hunting encampments. Jahangir, whose memoirs document his obsessive interest in natural history and the hunt, authorized coins struck at these sites as markers of royal presence. Issues from Shikargah are among the rarest of the Mughal quarter mohur series precisely because output depended entirely on the emperor's itinerary rather than any standing production schedule.
