| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse field is entirely occupied by a bold nasta'liq and naskh Arabic-script legend executed in high relief, characteristic of Safavid hammered gold coinage. The central inscription names the ruler Shah Tahmasb (شاه طهماسب) and records the mint name Kerman (ضرب کرمان) together with the AH regnal year 960. The lettering fills the flan to its edges, with individual characters interlocking in the dense, dynamic manner typical of mid-sixteenth-century Iranian die-cutting. The irregular flan exhibits the slightly convex surface and uneven rim common to hand-struck issues of this period. No border ornament or geometric frame is present, the inscription itself constituting the sole decorative element. |
