The central field carries the royal titulature of Shah Tahmasb I, identifying him as the just, perfect, and guiding sovereign. A circular marginal legend surrounds the central cartouche, completing the royal inscription with the mint name Herat (هراة). The script is deeply struck and characteristic of Safavid hammered gold coinage of the sixteenth century. |
