The date 1625 appears in the upper portion of the encircling legend, which reads SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. BENEDICTVM., a pious invocation meaning 'Blessed be the Name of the Lord.' The overall design is crisp and well-centred, consistent with the high-quality milled coinage introduced under Nicolas Briot's supervision. |
