Obverse description Left-facing effigy of George Washington, first President of the United States (1789–1797), rendered in the classic portrait style originally modeled by John Flanagan after the 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and refined by William Cousins. The legend LIBERTY appears above, IN GOD WE TRUST to the left, and QUARTER DOLLAR along the lower rim. The mint mark appears below the motto, with the engravers' initials JF and WC incused near the truncation of the neck. The field is smooth with lettering in raised relief.

Reverse description The reverse depicts the life cycle of the red mangrove tree (Rhizophora mangle), shown progressing from a propagule seedling to a mature arboreal specimen, symbolizing the ecological significance of the mangrove forests within Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The composition emphasizes the plant's unique viviparous reproduction, with propagules visibly germinating before falling from the parent tree into the saltwater environment. The park's name SALT RIVER BAY and the territorial designation U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS arc across the upper field, while the date 2020 and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appear in the lower portion. Engravers' initials JM and RM are present in the design field. The overall style is naturalistic and detailed, consistent with the America the Beautiful Quarters series.
