The Grand Canyon quarter was the second of five America the Beautiful releases for 2010, part of a 56-coin program authorized by Congress in 2008 to run through 2021. The series followed the same legislative logic as the 50 State Quarters program but drew on federal lands rather than state symbols — national parks, monuments, forests, and historic sites.
Silver Proof examples were struck exclusively at San Francisco. The .900 fine composition mirrors the 90% silver standard used for circulating quarters prior to 1965.
