| Beschrijving voorzijde | Left-facing bust of George Washington, first President of the United States (1789–1797), occupies the center of the obverse field. The effigy is rendered in high relief as a draped bust, based on the classic design introduced by John Flanagan in 1932 and adapted by William Cousins. The legend LIBERTY arcs above the portrait, with IN GOD WE TRUST to the left and QUARTER DOLLAR along the lower rim. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper periphery. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Frederick Douglass, the renowned abolitionist, author, and statesman, is depicted seated at a writing desk in three-quarter view, pen in hand, evoking his legacy as a prolific writer and orator. His historic home, Cedar Hill, located in the Anacostia neighborhood of Washington, DC, is rendered in the background. The inscription FREDERICK DOUGLASS arcs prominently across the upper field, with DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA along the lower rim and the date 2017 positioned within the design. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears in the field, and a mint mark is present below the design. The composition, engraved by Phebe Hemphill, was issued as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. |
