| Beschrijving voorzijde | Left-facing portrait bust of George Washington after the 1932 design by sculptor John Flanagan, based on Jean-Antoine Houdon's life mask. The effigy occupies the central field with the legend LIBERTY arching above and the date and mint mark below the truncation. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears to the left of Washington's portrait, while UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper periphery and QUARTER DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower rim. The initials JF appear at the base of the neck truncation. This obverse design, restored to emphasize the subtle modelling of the original Houdon source, was introduced in 2010. |
