| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Shanku (sacred conch shell) of the Travancore royal house, rendered in stylised relief at the centre of the field. The conch is flanked on all sides by the Malayalam legend reading 'Kaal Chuckram' (Quarter Chuckram), with the characters arranged around the central motif. The coin is bordered by a raised rim with a partial beaded inner border visible at the periphery. The design is characteristic of the traditional Hindu iconographic coinage of the Travancore princely state. |

Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma VI ruled Travancore from 1885 to 1924, one of the longest reigns in the princely state's history and a period of significant administrative modernization under British paramountcy. The chuckram was Travancore's indigenous monetary unit, operating in parallel with British Indian coinage — four chuckrams to the paisa, with the system resisting full integration into imperial currency until well into the twentieth century.
KM#35 is a short-dated type, struck only across 1888–1889 before design or die revisions prompted a new catalog entry.
