| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Emperor Menelik II, wearing an elaborately decorated traditional crown and beaded necklace with a cross pendant, engraved with fine detail by Jean Lagrange. A circular Ge'ez legend surrounds the effigy, reading 'His Imperial Majesty Menelik, King of Kings of Ethiopia.' The Ethiopian regnal date appears in Ge'ez numerals below the bust in the lower exergue. The coin border is defined by a continuous inner dentilated rim. |
