| Obverse description | The royal coat of arms of Portugal, crudely struck in the hammered style, occupies the central field and is divided by the mint letter. The overall design is typical of the debased local coinage produced at the Dio (Diu) mint for Portuguese India. Certain specimens bear a numeral '1' beneath the cross, identifying the denomination in the local 'Dugani' convention. The lettering D-O appears flanking the arms, referencing the Dio mint. |
