Obverse description Central device features the armorial shield of the East India Company, displaying the union flag in the first and fourth quarters and three ships passant in the second and third quarters, surmounted by a heraldic crest. The shield is supported and framed within a decorative cartouche, with the date 1833 positioned in the exergue below. A ribbon at the base bears the abbreviated Latin legend AUSP:REG & SEN:ANG: (Auspicio Regis Et Senatus Angliae, meaning 'By the authority of the King and Parliament of England'). The entire design is contained within a plain raised rim.

Reverse description The denomination QUARTER ANNA is inscribed in Roman letters across the upper field. At centre, a pair of balanced scales is depicted, symbolising justice and equitable trade, flanked by the Arabic word عدل (Adil, meaning 'just' or 'fair') between the pans. Below the scales, the Hijri date ١٢٤٩ (AH 1249, corresponding to AD 1833) is rendered in Eastern Arabic numerals. The design is contained within a plain raised rim.
