Muscat and Oman's copper coinage of this period was struck under Faisal bin Turki, who ruled from 1888 to 1913 and maintained a careful balancing act between British influence and nominal Ottoman proximity. The "with border" variety designated by KM#8.2 distinguishes it from the borderless type, a die distinction that reflects the practical realities of small-run colonial-era copper production rather than any deliberate policy change.
These quarter anna pieces circulated alongside a chaotic mix of Maria Theresa thalers, Indian rupees, and local issues — copper fractions serving the bazaar trade that silver could not efficiently reach.
