Obverse description The obverse features a central field bearing the fractional denomination '1/4' flanked by the Arabic date ٥١٣١ (AH 1315 struck in retrograde, constituting the noted error), all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The outer legend, running along the periphery between the beaded circle and the coin's rim, reads 'FESSUL BIN TURKEE IMAM OF MUSCAT AND OMAN' in Latin characters, with 'ANNA' and the fraction also appearing in the legend. The retrograde date ٥١٣١, reading right-to-left in error as a mirror image of the correct AH 1315, is the defining diagnostic feature of this variety. The overall design is plain and utilitarian, consistent with the coinage style of the Muscat Mint of this period.
