Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair dressed with a diadem of pearls and drawn back into a chignon secured with a decorative pin, rendered in the so-called 'Young Head' portrait engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon. The truncation of the neck is plain and unadorned. The peripheral legend reads VICTORIA D.G. BRITANNIAR. REGINA F.D., separated by raised dots, with the date 1871 positioned at the base of the design below the portrait. The coin is bordered by a continuous ring of beads.
