Hohenfriedeberg — now Dobromierz in southwestern Poland — was a small Silesian town whose name carried outsized military resonance: Frederick the Great's decisive 1745 victory over the Austro-Saxon forces was fought on its doorstep. By 1922, the town was issuing Notgeld in the chaotic interlude between the postwar inflation spiral and the eventual collapse of the Papiermark.
