Frederick Christian von Plettenberg-Lenhausen became Prince-Bishop of Münster in 1688, inheriting a diocese still recovering from the devastating Nine Years' War campaigns that had swept through Westphalia. His brief coinage, including this small fractional issue, spans just two years before his death in 1706 cut short a reign that never fully stabilized the bishopric's finances. The 1⁄24 Reichsthaler denomination was a workhorse of small commerce in the Holy Roman Empire, its value fixed by the Leipzig Foot of 1690 — a monetary convention Münster had only recently adopted.
