Reverse description A bold Cross of Malta, associated with the Military Order, occupies the central field, dividing the reverse into four equal quarters. The arms of the cross extend nearly to the inner circle, which is defined by a beaded border. A circular Latin legend in uncial script surrounds the cross within the outer beaded rim, presenting a devotional invocation. The hammered flan gives the coin a characteristically irregular outline typical of medieval Portuguese billon issues.
