Reverse description The Virgin Mary, crowned and nimbed, seated facing on clouds above a large elaborate heraldic shield bearing the quartered arms of Bavaria and the Palatinate, surrounded by additional armorial devices. The Madonna holds the Christ Child on her left knee, who raises his right hand in blessing, while she holds a sceptre in her right hand. The date 1694 and a star appear at the top of the field flanking the legend, with the devotional Latin inscription running around the full periphery: CLYPEVS OMNIBVS IN TE SPERANTIBVS (Shield to all who trust in Thee), referencing the Marian patronage of Bavaria.
