| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing busts of the two co-ruling dukes, John Casimir (left) and John Ernest (right), depicted in half-length, both armored in elaborately engraved plate armor with ruffled collars, facing one another at center. The figures are rendered in the late Renaissance hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century Saxon coinage. A circular inner beaded border frames the dual portraits, with the full circumferential legend divided by the busts. The motto FRID. ERNEHRT - VNFRID. VER. ZEHRT. (Peace nourishes — strife devours) appears within the legend, a characteristic Saxon ducal device of the period. |
