This joint issue reflects the unusual co-regency arrangement that governed Liegnitz-Brieg through the late 1650s, with three Piast dukes sharing authority over one of the last remaining Protestant duchies in Silesia. Habsburg pressure on the Silesian Piasts was relentless during this period; the dynasty's extinction in 1675 would allow Vienna to absorb the duchy outright, making these co-regency issues among the final chapter of over three centuries of Piast minting in the region.
The 1658–1659 production window was shaped partly by the aftermath of the Thirty Years' War, which had devastated Silesian silver circulation and interrupted mint operations across the duchy for years prior.
