| Beschrijving voorzijde | Christ pantocrator depicted standing facing on a suppedion (footstool), nimbed with a cruciform halo, vested in pallium and colobium. With his right hand raised in benediction and his left hand clasping the Holy Gospels, the figure is rendered in the hieratic Byzantine style characteristic of the Komnenian period. The flanking field inscriptions IC XC identify the figure as Jesus Christ. |

The emperor holds a globus cruciger in his left hand and an upright labarum staff in his right hand, the ensemble projecting the imperial and divine mandate in the established Komnenian iconographic tradition. The flanking legend identifies him by name and title as Despot. |
