Reverse description Frontal bust of Emperor John II Komnenos, crowned with a jewel-encrusted stemma, vested in the imperial loros and bejewelled chlamys. The emperor holds a globus cruciger in his left hand and an upright labarum staff in his right hand, the ensemble projecting the imperial and divine mandate in the established Komnenian iconographic tradition. The flanking legend identifies him by name and title as Despot.
