Ghiyath al-Din Mahmud's reign over Bengal lasted barely four years before the Suri incursion effectively ended independent Sultanate authority in the region. This issue from Fathabad — a mint city on the Ganges whose precise modern identification remains debated among historians — falls squarely within that terminal phase, when the Bengal Sultanate was hemorrhaging territory and political coherence under pressure from both the expanding Mughal sphere and internal succession disputes following the death of Nusrat Shah in 1532.
