The peripheral legend reads SRI RAMA VARMA MAHARAJA OF TRAVANCORE, arranged around the upper portion of the coin, with the date 1881 positioned in the lower exergual area flanked by raised dots. The portrait displays a youthful visage with careful attention to the decorative headpiece, characteristic of the Indian princely state coinage tradition of the late nineteenth century. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The royal arms of Travancore depicted with two caparisoned elephants as supporters, each kneeling on the inner foreleg and facing inward toward a central conch shell surmounted by a stylised finial or crown, all resting above two crossed ceremonial objects in the lower field. Malayalam script legends appear in two lines around the upper periphery and in a further line across the lower portion of the field. The overall heraldic composition is deeply struck in high relief, consistent with the artistic conventions of Travancore state coinage. |
