| Reverse description | Central design features the Imperial crowned double-headed eagle within a circular frame or orle, flanked by the initials M and F (for Matthias Ferdinandus or serving as mintmaster/value marks) on either side, with ornamental crosses at the cardinal points. The Imperial crown surmounts the eagle at the top of the central composition. The encircling Latin legend MATH ROMA IMPE S · AVG invokes Emperor Matthias as ruler of the Holy Roman Empire. The overall design follows the conventional Imperial coinage typology of the period, rendered by the hammered technique on an irregular flan with a beaded border separating legend from field. |
