| Descrição do anverso | Central field displays a highly detailed Gothic castle with three towers, the central tower being the tallest and surmounted by merlons and battlements, flanked by two slightly shorter towers of similar architectural form, all set upon a fortified base with arched gateways. The castle motif, heraldic emblem of the Kingdom of Castile, is rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of Alfonso X's coinage. The central device is surrounded by an ornate border of interlaced scrollwork and pellet-in-annulet decorative elements forming an inner ring, beyond which runs the circumferential Latin legend. The outer legend reads ALFONSVS DEI GRACIA REX CASTELLE, identifying the king as Alfonso, King of Castile by the grace of God. |

To the left of the lion a decorative foliate or palm branch element fills the field.
