The central device is surrounded by an ornate border of interlaced scrollwork and pellet-in-annulet decorative elements forming an inner ring, beyond which runs the circumferential Latin legend. The outer legend reads ALFONSVS DEI GRACIA REX CASTELLE, identifying the king as Alfonso, King of Castile by the grace of God. |
