| Obverse description | Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed imperial bust facing right, rendered in the late antique barbarian tradition with bold, somewhat crude execution. The effigy is encircled by a nonsensical pseudo-legend imitating Byzantine imperial coinage, composed of debased Latin letterforms arranged around the periphery of the flan. The die work reflects the Gepid practice of copying Eastern Roman prototypes without reproducing intelligible inscriptions. |
