| Obverse description | The obverse is entirely covered in densely interlaced Nasta'liq calligraphy executed in high relief against a stippled field. The central area presents the Shahada and the names of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shi'a Islam arranged in a circular, interlocking composition. The legend fills the field from rim to rim, enclosed by a partial circular border, reflecting the characteristic First Safavid standard of Shah Isma'il I. The irregular flan and bold, fluid script strokes are typical of early Safavid hammered silver coinage. |
