| Beschrijving keerzijde | A floriated or crosslet cross occupies the central field, with each arm terminating in decorative floral or trefoil endings, characteristic of Genoese medieval coin design. The cross divides the reverse into four quadrants within a plain inner circle. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads CONRADVS REX ROMA NC, invoking the name of Conrad, King of the Romans, a traditional inscription maintained on Genoese coinage as an acknowledgment of imperial authority long after it had ceased to reflect political reality. Decorative stops separate the words of the legend, which runs close to the irregularly shaped rim of this hammered gold piece. |
