| Obverse description | Central device features the radiant Sun of May, depicted as a human face in full relief with stylized alternating straight and wavy rays emanating outward to the coin's periphery. A small six-petaled rosette appears at the base of the design below the solar disc. The circumferential legend PROVINCIAS DEL RIO DE LA PLATA runs along the outer border in incuse Latin lettering, framed by the milled edge. The overall design is rendered in a bold, somewhat archaic style characteristic of early Argentine republican coinage struck at the Potosí mint. |
