Struck in the first year that the Río de la Plata provinces formally claimed the Potosí mint as their own, following the patriot capture of the city in 1813 and the broader disruptions of the independence wars. Potosí changed hands repeatedly — royalists retook it in 1815, meaning coins dated that year may have been struck under either authority depending on the month. That ambiguity has never been fully resolved in the literature.
The KM#1.2 designation distinguishes this from the closely related 1.1, differentiated by assayer initial.
