| Obverse description | Central field displays the Gothic initial 'A' (for Afonso) surmounted by a royal crown in relief, with the Lisboa mint letter 'L' positioned to the right of the initial. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the central device, reading a variation of ADIVTORIVM NOST. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. |
