| Reverse description | Central field bears a large Gothic 'A' or shield-like device in relief, heavily worn and characteristic of the hammered technique employed at the Lisboa mint during the reign of Afonso V. A surrounding circular legend in uncial Latin characters reads a variation of ALFQ REX PORTVG, identifying the monarch as Afonso, King of Portugal. The flan exhibits the typical irregular planchet shape and uneven strike common to 15th-century Portuguese copper coinage. Surface shows significant patination and verdigris consistent with long burial or circulation. |
