The device is boldly rendered though worn, consistent with extensive circulation. A partial circular legend in uncial Latin script surrounds the central motif, reading ALFON REX PORTV A, identifying Alfonso V as King of Portugal. The strike is characteristic of 15th-century Lisbon mint production, with uneven flan edges and variable relief. This obverse die corresponds to the Afonso V type in this hybrid transitional issue. |

A surrounding legend in uncial Latin script reads EDVARDVS REX PORT, referencing the die of Duarte I (Edward I of Portugal), making this a hybrid issue combining obverse dies of Afonso V with reverse dies of his predecessor.
