| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the Portuguese royal shield (quinas), displaying five escutcheons arranged in a cross pattern, each charged with five bezants, surmounted by a floriated cross. The shield is flanked on either side by small cross pattée ornaments. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the circular Latin legend distributed around the periphery. The overall style is characteristic of mid-fifteenth-century Iberian hammered coinage, with bold, slightly irregular relief. |
