| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of William II (William III of England) facing left, rendered in high relief with flowing long wig characteristic of late Stuart portraiture. The king's effigy shows detailed chasing of the periwig curls and drapery folds at the truncation. Encircling the bust is the Latin legend GVLIELMVS · DEI · GRATIA ·, separated by raised dots, reading clockwise around the periphery. The field is slightly granular, consistent with the milled coinage of the Edinburgh Mint. A small decorative element is visible at the base of the truncation. |
