| Reverse description | Dynamic baroque composition depicting the Archangel Raphael guiding the young Tobias, a scene drawn from the Book of Tobit. The angel, rendered in vigorous high relief, descends dramatically from billowing clouds with outstretched wings and an upraised arm, while the smaller figure of Tobias is shown below in a posture of reverent accompaniment. Rays of divine light emanate from above, adding celestial atmosphere to the scene. Decorative foliate sprigs appear at the lower sides of the field, and a small cartouche or heraldic device occupies the base of the composition. The reverse carries no legend, the entire field being devoted to the figurative religious scene in accomplished baroque engraving. |
