Beschrijving voorzijde A detailed frontal elevation of Newgate Prison occupies the central field, rendered with meticulous architectural precision; the imposing facade features a rusticated central block surmounted by a balustraded parapet, flanked by lower wings with arched recesses and heavy masonry coursework. The legend NEWGATE arcs along the upper periphery in bold serif capitals, while the date 1795 appears prominently in the lower field, enclosed within a decorative scrollwork cartouche. A beaded border frames the entire design. The engraving captures the forbidding character of George Dance the Younger's celebrated prison architecture with considerable artistic skill.
Schrift voorzijde Latin

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line inscription arranged in seven horizontal lines reading PAYABLE / AT / THE RESIDENCE / OF MESS.RS SYMONDS / WINTERBOTHAM / RIDGWAY / & / HOLT, set within a plain field bounded by a continuous beaded border. The lettering is executed in bold, well-spaced serif capitals of varying size, filling the flan with a clean typographic composition characteristic of trade token design of the period. A small decorative ornament separates RIDGWAY from HOLT in the lower portion of the field.
