Tristan da Cunha issues coins primarily as collector pieces — the island's population of roughly 250 people, entirely dependent on periodic supply ships, has little use for circulating fractional copper. The attribution to St. Helena Dependency reflects the administrative arrangement under which Tristan operates, governed ultimately through Jamestown some 2,400 kilometers to the north.
