| Obverse description | Central field bearing a cross potent (crutch cross) superimposed over a saltire (St. Andrew's cross), forming a composite eight-armed device typical of Norwegian medieval penny coinage. The central motif is enclosed within a beaded inner ring, beyond which a circular Latin legend occupies the outer border of the flan. The design is executed in low relief on a thin, irregularly shaped hammered silver flan characteristic of bracteate-style production. The flan shows the pronounced warping and surface irregularities inherent to medieval striking technique. Despite significant wear and patination, the cross device and surrounding beaded ring remain discernible. |
