Issued during the reign of Sigurd I Jorsalfar, Norway's first crusader king, this anonymous fraction circulated in a monetary system so rudimentary that coins were often cut into halves or quarters to make small change — the denomination itself being an attempt to rationalize what clipping had already made common practice. At 0.2 g, surviving examples frequently show the irregular flan edges characteristic of hand-struck bracteate-adjacent production from Hamar or Nidaros, neither mint operating with anything approaching standardized dies.
